5 Things You Can Do With Your Repurposed Short Videos

If you’ve been wondering what video-length would give you the best results, Wistia conducted a study recently where they compared engagement on 30-second videos and 90-second videos.

The results were conclusive. Engagement on both the videos was equal till the 30-second mark after which engagement for the 90-second video quickly dropped.
So what do you do when you have a lot of long-form videos that you’ve spent time, effort and money on?
Simple. Convert your longer videos into a series of repurposed short videos. This way you still have the long videos for fans and brand evangelists who will be interested in sticking on till the end, and also have a shorter series to hook new users or people who are simply checking you out.
Here’s a list of 5 things you can do with a series of repurposed short videos:

Repurposed short videos

1. Use them on your website and landing pages

Use short videos above the fold on websites and landing pages because people are more likely to see a video than read a lot of text, especially when they’re viewing your content on a mobile device.

2. Set up TrueView ads on YouTube

If you’re going to run an ad campaign in YouTube, pick the short videos that convert the best and use them as pre-roll ads for your services and products. Since you already have a few short videos ready by simply repurposing longer ones, your turnaround time to run these campaigns gets significantly shorter.

3. Post them on your video and social channels

Having engaging content to post on video and social media regularly is not easy. You can’t really churn out new videos or infographics every other week. Repurposing long videos into a series of shorter ones will give you a large repository of postable content at a moment’s notice.

4. Collate them into a freebie for your blog subscribers

Stumped on what you give away to your blog subscribers? If your videos are educational, fun or insightful, you can collate your short video series with a particular theme (say, 2013’s Best Marketing Insights) and give those who sign up for your emails exclusive access to them.

5. Send better emails

A lot of people are going to be reading your emails on a mobile device, so again, instead of sending them big chunks of text, send them a short video that explains things better.
